At the bottom of the Patagonian Sea lies an enormous continental shelf, or shoal, which extends hundreds of miles out into the South Atlantic. As a result of the shoal, sunlight penetrates the shallow depths and nourishes the entire food chain. Marine populations are especially robust and prolific here.
While fishing activity is highly regulated by the Argentine government, the marine life here are especially resilient. We are also able to catch fish and marine life typically found in deep sea areas at relatively shallow depths. The unusual expansive shoal results in several environmental advantages:
- We don’t ever use damaging deep sea trawling.
- We use traditional near-surface, environmentally aware harvesting techniques instead.
- Almost zero bycatch—great care is taken to ensure only the correct species are
- Robust sun-nourished marine populations recover quickly after fishing.
